Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, no fine print.
Is the food really free?+
Yes — completely. Every place in our directory serves food at no cost. Nobody will ask you to pay, and most won't ask for anything at all. If any place ever asks you for money, tell us immediately.
Do I need ID or paperwork?+
Most places ask for nothing at all. A few food pantries ask for a photo ID, and we say so clearly on each listing. Nothing on this site requires an application or an account.
What if a listing is wrong or outdated?+
Hours change — that's why every page says "call before you go." Every listing shows the date we verified it and the page we verified it on. If you spot something wrong, email us and we'll fix it fast. Accuracy is our whole job.
I need food right now. What's the fastest option?+
Use the "Open right now" filter to see only places serving at this moment. If nothing is open, call 2-1-1 — a real person answers 24/7 and will find food near you.
Do I need to download an app?+
No. This site works in your phone's browser. If you want it on your home screen: on iPhone, tap Share → "Add to Home Screen"; on Android, tap the menu → "Add to Home screen." It'll behave like an app.
I'm not in San Antonio. Can this help me?+
Our listings cover San Antonio, TX only. But anywhere in Texas, dialing 2-1-1 connects you to free local help, including food.
How do you choose which places to list?+
One rule: we must be able to verify the address and hours on a real web page. We never publish a listing we couldn't verify, and sponsors never pay for better placement — sponsored cards are always clearly labeled.
I run a pantry or meal program. How do I get listed?+
It's free. See the For Organizations page — send us your details and we'll verify and publish your listing.
